Holding Utilities and Politicians Accountable

Say NO to monopoly energy utilities and their outrageous rate hikes, unchecked profits, and failure to meet the needs of California when it comes to safe, clean, reliable and affordable energy.

For too long, California’s big utilities have treated ratepayers like ATMs. These monopoly utilities have grabbed record profits through an endless cycle of wasteful spending, backroom deals, repeated rate hikes and restricting consumer freedom and choice. And they’re doing all this while destroying communities due to incompetence and malfeasance.

Enough is enough. We are working to hold utilities and politicians accountable to the needs of consumers.

Join Re-Volt to fight out of control utility spending and to put California consumers first.

1 in 5 California households are struggling to pay their electricity bills, in part because utility rates in California have doubled in the last decade. The state’s three big monopoly utilities – Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) – are raking in billions of dollars in record profits while subjecting consumers to frequent blackouts, sky-high monthly bills and utility-caused disasters that have devastated communities.

Why is the system so broken, especially given California’s sheer abundance of energy resources? Where are the regulators and elected leaders when you need them?

The truth is monopoly utilities operate under a rigged model: the more of our money they spend, the more profit they make. To increase their shareholder’s profits, the utilities simply spend more ratepayer money, earning ever-higher profits. The kicker? Some of that money flows into political campaign coffers, buying silence from lawmakers and keeping regulators toothless. It’s a profit machine powered by public dollars and protected by political complacency.

This is a rotten cycle that needs to be broken if we ever want to have access to safe, clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

You pay the electric bill or you pay the rent. And I know viscerally what those choices feel like. And I don't think any California family should have to go through that.

Fundamentally, what we're trying to do with Re-Volt  is democratize energy production and distribution and storage. We're trying to take the power away from the utilities who have had it for 100 years and vest it locally in individual homeowners, renters, businesses, farms and school districts.

Californians utility bills are so unbelievably expensive because the state and its regulators have fallen down on the job of protecting customers

Travis Gibrael

Energy is a human right. We want to have access to energy. We want it to be safe and reliable. We don't want it to burn down our communities, and we don't want terrible decisions to be made because those are the most profitable for utility shareholders at our expense.
